Leading Without Permission

The Women in Leadership Summit arrives in Sydney for its flagship event, bringing together women from across Australia to step forward, take ownership, and lead with greater conviction. In a time of constant pressure, shifting expectations, and increasing visibility, this summit is designed to help leaders move beyond hesitation and into decisive action.

Despite making up a significant portion of the workforce, women remain underrepresented at senior levels. The challenge is no longer about capability or effort. It is about stepping forward without waiting to feel ready, building influence without needing validation, and leading with confidence in environments that are often complex and demanding.

From Insight to Action
This summit moves beyond reflection and into execution. With fewer sessions and deeper conversations, the focus is on real leadership challenges and practical application. You will be given the space to think critically, challenge your own approach, and identify clear actions you can take back into your role.

Stop Waiting. Start Leading. Step Forward Without Approval.

Leadership does not begin when permission is given. It begins when you choose to act. Across two days, you will hear from leaders who have stepped into high pressure environments, made decisions without certainty, and built credibility through action rather than approval.

SESSION 2
11:10  AM: INTERACTIVE KEYNOTE: Leading Before You Feel Ready

Stepping into leadership rarely comes with certainty. For many women, growth brings self doubt, heightened visibility, and pressure to prove credibility in environments that often demand perfection. In this candid and empowering session, Dana Lightbody explores what it really takes to lead before you feel ready.

Drawing on real world experience, practical insight, and the patterns she has observed across thousands of women leaders, Dana unpacks why confidence is not a prerequisite for leadership, but a result of action. She challenges common myths around readiness, authority, and self belief, and examines how women can build influence, presence, and trust without waiting for permission.

This session is designed to help women reframe imposter syndrome, recognise their existing capability, and step forward with greater clarity and conviction. You will leave with practical ways to own your voice, lead authentically, and back yourself even when it feels uncomfortable. Because leadership does not begin with certainty. It begins with choosing to step forward.
