About this Course

There is a moment most leaders know and almost nobody talks about. You are in the room. The decision is yours. And underneath the confidence you are performing, you are not certain. So you reach for what worked last time, and you hope the ground has not moved. It usually has.

Experience is built entirely out of the past. Every instinct you trust was formed in a role that was smaller, or slower, or simpler than the one you hold now. Those instincts are the reason you were promoted. They are also the reason capable people quietly get stuck, because when the pressure comes on, nobody loosens their grip on what they know. They tighten it.

Now put AI in the room with you. Answers arrive in seconds, fully formed, beautifully written, on any subject you care to name. What no machine will tell you is whether this particular answer is right for this situation, with these people, with this much riding on it. That part is still yours. It has never been worth more, and almost nobody is being taught it.

This masterclass is two days on the part of your job that cannot be handed to a machine. You will learn how your own thinking is put together and where it has drifted out of step with the world you are actually leading in. You will learn to catch yourself in the half second before you react.
And you will learn to tell the difference between a judgement you have made about someone and the thing they actually said or did, which is where most workplace conflict starts and where most of it could end.

You will not leave with more information. You will leave better at using the information you already have.

Continuing Professional Development

12 hours across the two days. Members of the Australian HR Institute, the Governance Institute of Australia, Chartered Accountants ANZ and CPA Australia may claim this masterclass as verifiable or structured CPD. Attending live online earns the same hours as attending in person. All delegates receive a certificate of attendance.

Masterclass Agenda

8:30AM Registration | 9:00AM Start | 5:00PM Close  | Both Days

Day One

Seeing Clearly

Day one is about catching yourself in the act. You will learn how your mind turns raw information into meaning, why two people in the same meeting can walk out with entirely different accounts of what happened, and how to notice the split second where habit takes over from choice.

Building Awareness
  • A model for how we make meaning of our experiences, and how it shapes what we do next
  • How perspectives, beliefs and self identity get built, and why they are harder to see than to hold
  • The three ways a mental map fails: when it is out of date, when it is distorted by old defences, and when it is too simple for the problem in front of you
  • Exploring core values and how they connect you to your work
  • Goal setting for the two days and beyond

Focusing Attention
  • Two systems of attention, present centred and time centred, and how to move deliberately between them
  • Understanding your triggers, and the pause that turns a reaction into a response
  • Constructive thinking and resilience when the pressure is sustained rather than sudden
  • Directing focus on purpose instead of being pulled by habit, urgency or noise

Judgement and Discernment
  • The difference between what someone did and the story you have built about who they are
  • Widening your view of a tension before you respond to it
  • Working with people whose thinking is genuinely unlike your own
  • Where most workplace conflict actually begins, and how much of it never needed to

Day Two

Choosing Well

Day two turns awareness into something you can use on a Monday. You will map your own thinking patterns, learn where they help and where they quietly cost you, and then apply the whole framework to the hardest question leaders now face: what to do when the answers are free and the judgement is not.

Cultivating Accountability
  • Taking ownership of how you are operating, not only of what you deliver
  • Empathy, consideration and being genuinely available to the people you lead
  • Holding people to account without losing them
  • Healthy boundaries, and owning your own style and voice

Developing Agility
  • Profiling your thinking preferences across ten continuums
  • Where each preference serves you, and where it has hardened into a constraint
  • Expanding perspective for smarter decisions under time pressure
  • Using an understanding of thinking preferences to influence and motivate others
  • Fear based behaviours that quietly create barriers, and how to move past them

Judgement in the Age of AI
  • What AI is genuinely good at, what it only appears to be good at, and how to tell the difference in the moment
  • Why fluent, confident and wrong is the hardest combination a leader has ever had to assess
  • Using AI as a tool for thinking without outsourcing the responsibility for the thought
  • Deciding what must stay a human call in your organisation, and being able to say why
  • Discernment as the differentiator when information is abundant and cheap
  • A practical roadmap for keeping your own map current as the ground keeps moving

Meet Your Expert Facilitator

AMI COOK

Founder and CEO, MindNavigator Technologies. Bestselling author of The Map Gap: Why Smart People Still Struggle, and the Proven Path to Clearer Thinking and Better Outcomes, published August 2026.

Ami was building a successful career in business transformation when an accident changed the course of her life. Recovering from it left her with a question she could not put down: what actually drives the way we think, feel and act, and can any of it be changed?

That question became her work. Today she runs an award winning organisation built on a Mind First approach to leadership, and she spends her time with chief executives and leadership teams pulling apart the mental models that sit underneath their decisions. Her focus is the layer beneath behaviour, the place where people decide what a situation means before they have consciously decided anything at all.

The MindNavigator framework has been recognised as one of the ten most innovative organisational development companies in Asia Pacific, and delivered inside an advanced MBA program at the University of Technology Sydney. The Map Gap, published in August 2026, brings the whole system together in one place. Every delegate at this masterclass receives a copy.

Key Benefits of Attending

  • Clarity: understand how your mind turns raw information into meaning, and where that process is quietly letting you down
  • Composure: recognise your own default under pressure and learn to pause long enough to choose a response
  • Discernment: separate what somebody actually said or did from the story you have built around it
  • Agility: profile your thinking preferences and learn to flex them when the situation calls for something different
  • Influence: read how other people construct a situation, and work with the difference instead of against it
  • Ownership: take responsibility for the thinking behind your results, not only the results
  • Judgement with AI: use artificial intelligence as a tool for thinking without handing over the thinking itself
